Sport psychological counseling

Sport psychology has a huge impact on the performance of ice hockey players, but it is often neglected, especially in team sports. Ice hockey puts extreme demands on player's mental abilities more than any other sport. Players are under enormous psychological pressure and only if they can deal with the stress and pressure of the team, and around, they can be successful.

Success in ice hockey, but also in life, consists in the ability to control your mind effectively. It is essential to lay down clear goals that are challenging, define specific tasks on the ice, achievement of a positive view, creation and use of positive thinking (to imagine the best performances, throw away the negativity, fear, doubt, anger, and thus create an encouraging mood).

While coaches usually focus on the physical aspect of sport, sport psychologists focus on player's mind. Sport psychologists of the Ice hockey agency Surpass can help athletes to achieve their goals.

How do sport psychologists of the Ice hockey agency Surpass work?

Some athletes having psychological problem are seeking help from a sport psychologist. But it is not the rule. Sport psychologist is there also for players who want to concentrate better and achieve better results.

Players are often nervous or lose motivation during the course of competition. Sometimes, difficulties in communicating with teammates or coaches appear. The closest group in the team can manage their mood. Players cope with that differently. The pressure on them increases at key moments and as the game progresses, the player may lose much.

We focus on:

  • Performance improvement – Sport psychologist focuses on improving performance using various mental strategies such as visualization and relaxation techniques. These strategies help athlete to overcome obstacles, to achieve their full potential and to cope with competitive pressure. Sport psychologists help athletes at all levels. They address the psychological pressure of parents, coaches, or even of player's own expectation.
  • Improvement of condition after injury – The fear of injury recovery and loss of concentration on the game appears after an injury in some players.
  • Improvement of mental condition off the ice – Each player is an individual and has a different relationship to the things around. Not every player is able to positively cope with their environment stimuli, which for example stem from childhood, school problems, family or the closest environment. All this can have a negative impact on player and can affect his performance.
