Scouting

It is not easy to determine the quality of the player just by looking into the statistics of goals scored and assists passed. Each player has a scale of attributes such as skating, technique, in-game thinking, whether defensive or offensive.

To make the assessment as objective as possible, the ice hockey scouts watch games, and compile a comprehensive database of opinions on the players. The Ice hockey agency Surpass has own ice hockey scouts who watch not only the highest competition games, but also lower competition games. We do not focus on elite players only, but also on other players who have the potential to become better. We are able to address these players comprehensively and improve their in-game skills.

Ice hockey scout's work

Ice hockey scout's work is watching players of different ages and from different leagues.

The ice hockey scout evaluates player's prospects on draft at certain periods during the season.

"Talent in children from 6 to 15 years of age may, or may not yet fully display. But from 13 years, any extraordinary talents can be usually identified. They can be usually seen earlier, but still they do not guarantee of future success. Talented players must go through the entire development process, which has patterns that are hard to skip. "

"Player, who is excellent at 9 years of age, may not be as good at his 16. On the other hand, player who matures later, do not possess all the parameters even in his 16. Everything shows up at the age of 19 or 20.

Provided these assumptions, the ice hockey scout tries to prepare charts of player's progression (or in-game player attributes).

Player's in-game attributes are divided into several groups.

Emphasis is placed especially on:

  • Skating skills. The style and quality of skating, such as: skating stance, stability, economy of skating, speed and agility.
  • Control of the puck. Ice hockey scouts evaluate the puck control in crowded area among the opponents. They are interested in how the player is able to pass and shoot, how he leads the puck, whether he has his head upright and monitors the movement of opponents and teammates peripherally, whether he can create space and pass to unmarked teammate accurately. Therefore it is important to develop skating skills in combination with control of the puck in a variety of in-game situations from childhood.
  • Player's in-game thinking. Player's in-game thinking consists mainly in how the player is able to react to the game progress and certain game situations, the speed of analysis and involvement of all attributes.
  • Player's personal aspect, behavior. Ice hockey scouts focus on player's personal aspect, on what is his behavior in the team on and off the ice.
